Default best financial project

So its about that time again.. hours upon hours of research, days of not getting much sleep due to the fact I keep looking up videos and pictures... I need a project.

Now I've been researching and a l98 with a cam seems to be a good motor under boost. But I don't know if it is worth the cost to put a supercharger on it. And just putting a cam and lifters with a supercharger really doesn't seem like a project to me. I mean. It does... but not something I can get elbow deep in and pissed off when it doesn't go right.
Another option for me would be an lt1 swap. This swap seems to be basic enough with all, if not more, options as a tpi. The only question I have would be about wiring and I think the coolant flows the opposite direction. Not that big of a deal.
Now an ls1. The king swap. Now I've not been able to see many write ups on this swap but I've seen it done a lot but not any write ups.
I am not looking for insane power or anything. Just a fun project that will be still reliable. What would be most cost effective?

LT1 swap not worth it. Converted LT1 intake or miniram gives the same effect and saves a whole lot of money and headache.
What are your goals and budget/use?

jack your gas cap up, drive the 85 out, drive the ZR1 in, replace cap, pretty darn cost effective....sorry, still workin my way thru the first cup of coffee.

Right now I'm maxing my budget at $8k. And more of a fun toy on the weekend.
Wouldnt the upper parts on a tpi make less power due to the lower CR?

There are a number of LSx swaps done here, seen a 5.3 in the works LS2, LS3 couple guys really liked the Erod LSx they dropped in. Sounds like a nice project thats RELIABLE when done.
Those things last forever, take some hammering and dont leak.

Well with that 383 lt4. It seem great. But it would be lacking the satisfaction of me building it. I was considering buying a spare 4 bolt and building it with the tpi set up 383. Is that taking it too far?

Boost is your quickest and easiest route to power moreso than heads and cam. It has its price to pay though.

You can always build a huge CI small block meaning well over 400ci get BBC power in a SBC package and noone will know.
Couple guys on here with 421cid C4s, 434s one has a 450cid sbc that is probably an honest 9 sec car

I have 2 questions:

1. Do you need to be smog compliant?
2. Does your budget include trans & rear end upgrades?

Absolutely. There seems to be a lot of good reports around here on a HSR. A moderate 383 with some exhaust and a D44 would probably fit in your budget. You probably wouldn't even need a trans build with that kind of power.
