hard start, whitee smoke ruff idle
HELP, Perfectly maintained 91, 70,000 miles
When starting stater freezes after 1/2 second, try again and up to 6 times, then engine cranks perfectly, I have ruled out battery,. after start, white smoke and ruff idle and acceleration for about 2 minutes after that all is well till I have to crank again. Engine stops smoking after 1-2 minutes. any ideas? HELP !

My first guess would be a leaking head gasket causing a hydro-lock. Check your oil for coolant. White smoke is usually a sign of a coolant leak somewhere that gets into the combustion chamber.

I have checked oil, no coolant there, but my coolant light has been coming on and off, have added coolant twice. Just got through driving it and it seemed to stopped. but in looking back, it was running like It had bad gas or water in gas. any idea on the cost to make this repair?

any are coolant or oil fouled. Look into the spark plug holes. The
leaker will often be sparkling clean having been steam cleaned by
the coolant. These tests may limit the problem to one side. Though
I suspect if you are going to strip things down and educate yourself
to do one side, it won't be much more trouble to do both sides. And
think about a good valve job while things are apart. (Is five angles
still the trick valve job -- I haven't done an engine since the Firechicken
about 1987.)
