I think my IAC is dying, so I'm going to swap it out. I have a couple of spares, so to check them I put them in a baggie, grounded the aldl, and watched the pintle unscrew. I noticed that these 2 have a shaft with a slot in it, that matches with a slot in the IAC body. I went to screw them back down to 1 1/8", but because of the slot they won't go in that far. Is there a way to get the pintle back down to the 1 1/8" with these IAC's?
how close can you get them, thats only a starting point so you dont damage them putting them back in. kind of an odd question, but, why dont you reverse the polarity you used and let it screw itself back in?
The IAC is a stepper motor. You don't "reverse the polarity" (at least not easily). I guess you could swap the two pairs of wires, but that is way too much trouble.
Don't install the IAC with the pintle extended. It can break it. Personal experience speaking here.
You don't need to set the pintle to a specific length. Just screw it all the way in. Some IACs you just push in on the pintle and wiggle it around and it will go in. On others you have to "screw" the pintle in. I did it with my fingers.
The ECM will automatically reset the length when you cycle the ignition on-off.
