Hi there I am new here. I purchased a 1986 vette two weeks ago it is in great shape with 26000 miles. The car starts and runs great but when accelerating right before it shifts it loses power and starts to ping. The car has great power up 3500 4000 rpm then acts like it is starving and starts to ping, I let off and let it shift it has great power again and starts with the same symptoms again.
What I have done so far
New fuel filter, air filter, plugs, cap and rotor. Cleaned the MFS and throttle body. Checked the timing with the brown/black wire disconnected timing is 6 deg bdc and jumps to 16 deg when I give it gas if the brown/black wire is disconnected or not. It does this hot or cold. I hope you guys can help and thanks in advance John
with only 26000 miles and that is documented I'm hoping the cats are not clogged. the car sat for over ten years it was started again in 2009 and only 100 miles were put on it since till I bought it. I just pulled the fuel pump because when I changed the fuel filter there was no pressure in the line. When I benched tested the pump it would run for around thirty seconds then start to slow down and almost stop. I then ran it forward and backwards few times, now it runs all the time. I'm going pull and clean the tank tomorrow then I'll let you know how it runs
OK first I want to say thanks for the help. Just got done cleaning the fuel tank and put in a new fuel pump, I'll take it for a ride in the morning. I ordered a new Y pipe with no cats and a new cat for the rear, thanks again and I'll let you know how it runs
