Just got a 1986 Corvette and I'm trying to get the digital dash working.
The original problem was that the dash was totally dead, no lights at all.
Did the recommended batee fixes and now the dash lights up (all segments on), but doesn't display any of the functions. From the battery ground cable to the dash connector pins D1 and D3, I have a good ground. However, from connector B1 to ground cable there is a open. Page 82-8 of the service manual indicates this should be ground.
Page 82-1 appears to also indicate it is a ground, but I can't find it listed any where in the ground distribution. Can someone tell me what ground circuit it is on or where the ground is located?
Did more searching on the forum and in the service manual. It appears that this particular ground may not be shown in the service manual. Suspect it is either the drivers side door pillar ground or the passengers side door pillar ground. Going to check those out. The lights on the climate control module are acting erratic, so I hope fixing the bad ground will solve both the issues.
If your D1,3 are good just tie B1 into one of them. Seems IIRC the B1 is the ground for the DIC coming from the instrument panel anyway. When I regrounded mine I tied all 3 together and took a single wire to the frame.
Tied B1 to a good ground, but dash still lights all segments. It appears I have all grounds and voltages to dash, so time to try another dash or get this one rebuilt. At least I know all the LCD segments are good.
yeah it doesnt have to be 1oo percent as long as the lcd lenses arent cracked mine worked fine after i resodered it till the water got in from the top not on and the freezing from winter cracked gthe lens in the lcd so if your lens panels look intact it should be fine for what i need
