Default Headlight module??

Done some searching, still not 100% sure. Turn headlights on, headlights flip, motors keep running for about 5 seconds. Does it when flipping headlights up or down. Where is the headlight module? What tests can I do to see if its that or a sticking relay? Which / where is the relay?

Default Is it a thump, thump, thump?

Check the bushings first. Mine were shot on the PS and would do that. The parts are cheap, too!

Weird. Would that make them both screw up all at once? Headlight motors try to flip if they are hidden and you just turn parking lights on.

Definitely sounds like bushings. Cheap and easy fix, way less expensive than the module. For the car's age I can promise you that they're ground to powder by now.

Ok, it's killing me. I gotta know. Why would the bushings make the headlight motors come on when you turn the paring lights off, and why would both headlight motors start messing up at exactly the same time?

I don't know the exact logic behind the control unit but I can tell you this... if the motors are still running after the lights are closed, the bushings are shot, it's the only way it can happen. It runs until it meets enough resistance or a certain amount of time maybe?

I also know this, if you disconnect the battery and manually open the headlight about halfway, then plug the battery back up, they're gonna take off running. I BELIEVE that every time the switch is flipped to the OFF position, it attempts to close the lights. If the motors encounter resistance it immediately gives up. If the motors DON'T encounter resistance, they'll run for a set amount of time.

Pretty much everybody who has owned a C4 has been there with the headlights, trust us when we tell you it's the bushings. You MIGHT have another issue, but you'll never know until the bushing problem is resolved.

Wow! Priceless info! Thank you so much! Sounds like it works like a power window. The odd part it that when they started screwing up, I had the hood open. I flipped the headlights to polish the headlight buckets. They opened like they were supposed to. When I closed them, the motors kept running. Odd, but I've not put new bushings in yet. I'll do that first. Ecklers has them for 5.99. Obviously, a no-brainer. Thanks again

wilcox has a video on here demonstrating how to swap the bushings, and they sell them also.
