Default lowering engine using differnt motor mounts ?

I will get into some hood clearance problems in the future and I want to keep the stock hood.

This is a picture of my right side motor mount:

I could clear everything if I lowerd the engine about 1cm ( 3/8 inch )

Are there any motor mounts like that available or do I have to make them myself?

I use my Corvette almost like a daily driver. Will solid mounts affect the ride quality much? ( the 84 is stiff as it is and that does not bother me )

Interesting, I have the same motor mounts, and would like to raise the motor 3/8 to facilitate a header poblem.

Anyoune know of different bolt on motor mounts for this?

I know on older Chevelles, Camaros, etc, that you could use the big block mounts on small block engines. This resulted in the engine sitting a little lower in the engine bay. By how much, I'm not sure. GM never put BBC's in the C4. Maybe if the C4 mounts interchange with an older model car that had BBC's factory installed you could use that mount? Just a thought. Good luck!

I don't have anything positive to add here. I Looked for aftermarket poly mounts and none exist yet for the C4. All that I could find were the stock mounts, and they were corvette specific.

Hmmm..interesting idea...I would imagine that lowering the motor may bring the balancer closer to the front sub frame sobe careful when doing so.Sock form, its already pretty close.I dont know about solid mounts because it sounds to me they may transmit too much vibration when driving.

You may even be able to modify the frame brackets themselves where the mounts bolt into.Maybe drilling a new lower hole, cutting the top brackets down some and welding the old hole up for strength. That may allow you to dp the motor down without trying different mounts.

Then you can probably notch the frame and cut/weld to make plenty of balancer clearance.(Ive seen this done in a magazine some years back, when someone dropped in a BBC and had to notch the frame for balancer clearance plus move the steering rack mounts forward to relocate...it worked very well)

Just an idea. Will watch this thread to see if someone has done something like this before.

Guys just keep in mind that if you lower your engine that darn oil filter gets even CLOSER to the ground. Wouldn't wanna rip that off. :)

you can always change to a remote mount oil filter... lower engine also = lower center of gravity... hmmmm

You'll see trick C5 mounts first.

No one is creating new stuff for the C4 :(

Wouldnt doing this cause some issues with the C4 torque beam from the tranny to the rear end? Maybe 3/8ths is not enough to worry about?

I guess the motor mounts being somewhat flexable would pivot the front of the engine downward slightly more then it is now with the rear of the trans linked to that torque arm.

Thanks for the feedback!

If I go with solid mounts then I can have very little clearane to the damper without risking that they will touch.

Lower center of gravity is a nice bonus.

The c-beam will keep the tranny / rear en geometry constant, but at a slightley different angle.

The trailing arms will keep the rear knuckles in position. I should check the wheel alignment after the change, but it will not change it much.
