The cam sounds way to small for a 454 inch motor to me..... if your trying to make any HP anyway.....

Other than that the compresion is way to low for anything but a supercharged/turbo engine and if thats what your trying to do with it that camshaft is no where in the ball park.

yes.

but its a forged 454 shortblock
it has all the parts I would have selected for myself (though im not real fond of eagle) and I would not have started with a 2 grand block or gone with that many cubes.

subtract the 2 grand block and the 300 cam, and you still have 2800 - 3000 in parts if bought new, depending on the block used.
plus machine work and assembly

I am trying to get him to come down to 3500.
IF i get it for that, its like i picked up the block, machine work, assembly and 71 cubes for $500-$800

am probably going to buy it even at the asking price, id rather get it cheaper....... but...

just means it will take a little longer to get the supporting parts

I woudnt.

Pistons it comes with will probably want a much larger chamber much bigger everywhere period. The intake....like peak at 2200rpm and its done. Plus your tune.

Know its tempting but with this one you should wait til you have it all together with the right parts. That mini will need some serious work done to it too. (porting)> That CI can handle a LOT of head/intake
It will be worth it though youll have a monster on your hands.
Sell the stuff you got and start bargain hunting

guy isnt coming down on price, but i found a similar set up with 434 cubes, i am bit nostalgic for the 454 number, but not enough to pay 800 for 20 cubes when my budget is so short

WOOT guy came down to 3500, I am getting the 454!
its local pick up only, 12 hours away.... trying to get him to meet in the middle.

now it will sit, hmmm probably in my kitchen beside the super charger while i come up with money for heads and mini ram, have 500 left, so need about 2500-3000 more after things like gaskets, rockers valve covers ect

then a few hunded more for super charger plumbing, then 800 more for alchy injection

then 6 grand more for a car with a z56 and nicer paint......
hpwever, i doubt i can wait 3 years, so once i get the heads and intake, i may jsut try and run it at 8.4 compression, should still be pretty stout.

Forget $800 for alchy injection....look up Mr Freeze from Anderson Ford Motorsport. $189, no electronic parts to fail, easy install, works beautifully. Only downside is the 2 quart tank needs refilling often, but I'm under my hood all the time anyway so no big deal for me.

I am probably going to start with the cam that comes with it as posted above. for cash reasons, I am told it reacts diferently in this combination then people expect, and if it dosent work then i will swap it out.

Id like help with the transportation, but it it in long island new york, not sure youd like to drive that far :P

my biggest concern at the moment is gas, not time, im a bit tapped :P

Youll be fine with it.
Right head on it youll make huge power everywhere.
No need for high revs you got the cubes.
Piston speed dont want too much of anyway. 6k and youre good Id imagine
Thats a popular drag race cam that supposely is easy on parts.

For a street engine .125 on the non thrust side and .170 on the thrust side. you can trade this for .156 to .160 all the wall around if you luck out with concentric walls.

If going over 6000 RPMs or racing .170 on the non-thrust side and .2 on the thrust side is safer. This also works if concentric at about .185-.190 all the way around.

High RPMs, nitrous, blower all require a thicker wall to hold the pressure and temperatures without distorting. A wall approaching failure will show cracks in the direction of the perimeter, usually forming near the deck or in the side wall lower in the cylinder at the point of greatest piston side thrust.

world says max bore is 4.200 leaves 2.00 wall minimum
so that means this block has 1.75 minimum now, not idea and over the limit set by world. adding nitro or boost may not be a good idea, I am going to call world products on Monday. he says bill at world did all the machine work and fitted the rods and crank, so hopefully they sonic tested it as well, we shall see, id rather have fewer cubes and not have to worry about it,
