Help. Opti spark installation question
My friend had his opti spark off his 93 Vette. It has the splined drive shaft. He wasn't sure how to reinstall the unit so he located TDC and aligned the rotor up with the center of the tip pointing to the terminal on the cap. the engine starts and idles but misses when reved up. What is the proper procedure for reinstalling the unit with the splined shaft?

It only goes in one way!! Look at the shaft, part of the splines are different, sorta like 1 spline is missing. That lines up with the same female part. If ANY effort was used to install the shaft, the drive shaft or the female part or both could be buggered beyond use. I'm sure you will get more responses but they'll want to know how the motor was running before and why the opti was pulled and is it new or used?

If the Opti went back on easily (you didn't need to force it into place), it should be aligned correctly to the camshaft. If this is true, and the Opti is believed to be good, look elsewhere for the miss. Possibly a plug wire didn't get fully seated onto its tower on the Opti?
