Default Bad '85 ECM... Options??

New to the vette world, but been searching here and other boards to begin getting up to speed.

My question... The shop told me the Ecm needs to be replaced (shorting out on a few circuits). Would it be better to replace it with another '85, or later MAF year ECM?

Mainly curious about other options for better fuel/timing tables and cold start injector delete. Thanks

The '165 ECM from a 86- 89 TPI car ( Any inc more common F-Body TPI; same ECM )
and a tune from a '89 Vette to delete the cold start setup

Requires re-pinning of the '85 harness to suit later ECM
http://www.eecis.udel.edu/~davis/z28/ecm_swap/

but you get rid of the rare and expensive '85 only MAF module and replace it with a couple of cheap relays
Also next to no tuning support for the '870 '85 only ECM whereas '165 ECM is well hacked and supported
