My 1996 with Electronic Climate Controls is blowing all the air to the defroster vent on the windshield. I'm sure this has been posted before, but I don't remember what the fix was. After I'm on the road for awhile, the a/c will work like it's supposed to. Could it be low freon?
Please advise if you've had this problem. I've run the codes through the controls but it doesn't offer any clues.
Save the wave!
Thank You Hooked on Vettes! Excellent info from the posts! Although I was hoping I would just have to use a creme or something!
Vette Med, thank you also. If the standing on my head doesn't do the trick I'll be in touch.
Love this Forum! So much info and great people!
Before you go working on the nipples on the programmer, check the 3 way check valve under the plastic cover on the right side of the engine. If it cracks or leaks, there will not be enough vacuum to activate the vents.
It's a easy and cheep repair that is happens frequently. Check this first before going for the programmer which requires a good deal of effort.
Thanks, everyone for your advice. When I get time to work on it I will let you know which element it was giving me trouble. If anyone else is going through this, I have learned that the vacuum check valve has been discontinued by GM, GM/Delco parts direct, and Ecklers. Thank goodness I found it at NAPA for $4.99. If you ever need one, it is NAPA Part # 730-1348.
