It's a single brown wire coming from the back of the engine on the drivers side. The is a white snap connector on the end of the wire to connect to the distributor.
Just from what I've seen of pictures of the car, I bet you don't find anything you're supposed to. It seems like the previous owner did a pretty good job of hacking it up. I wouldn't even bet on it being the correct distributor.
You're doing a great job trying to pull it back into shape, I don't envy you the task.
The tach filter is bolted to the top bell housing bolt on the driver's side (just put mine back on). It's too far down in the wiring harnesses to see normally. I saw mine because the transmission was out and the engine was tilted down in the back from its normal position.
Take a look at this pic, you can see my tach filter sitting on wiper motor. To the right, the dizzy connector and to the left, the harness connector and where the wire comes out of the rear loom. Save it and zoom in.

I understand that. For the past few weekends I've been working on getting my dad's old '46 pickup drivable. I ran into my fair share of BS and delays but ultimately I couldn't get mad, it was fun. Slightly frustrating at times but nothing to get angry over.
It's always so different when you WANT to work on something as opposed to HAVING to work on it.
