Default heat wrap opinion
The op questioned wrapping the cat. It seems that a cat is a restriction, so it would hold heat more if it were wrapped. As far heat wrap causing exhaust pipe to rust, I don't think so. Exhaust pipe usually rusts from the inside out, not the outside in.
