I thought I saw a thread on here a couple of years ago about a company that makes an adapter wiring harness so that a newer Camaro CD deck was plug and play. I can't seem to find the thread now. My Bose keeps cutting in and out and the clock doesn't keep time worth a crap.
When I picked up my Vert all the "Blowes" junk was burned out and I replaced it all. The radio had an internal draw that killed the battery all the time so I removed everything boxes and all. I installed a remote Kenwood CD 40X4 with new Pioneer speakers all around and it sounds great. Modern electronics is the way to go and you can always save the "Blowes" crap for posterity. If you want, I'll walk you through how I did it.
It shows how to replace the 84-89 Bose cassette with a 93-96 Camaro Bose CD unit and gives the part numbers for the wiring adapter you will need. I just put one into my 84 and it was easy. Unlike others on this forum I've had good luck with my Bose and the sound is good in my car.
The hard part was that I added an IPOD jack in the CD player; the rest was easy.
Wait until you experience the horror of the little door amps burning out, you gotta gut the door to remove the enclosures, it isn't worth it. I took a cordless sawsall and cut the boxes into little pieces and slipped them out the square holes, I then made my own enclosures installed 3-way 6 1/2" Pioneer speakers and 3-way 6X9's in the rear with a remote Kenwood 40WX4 head unit, it sounds great. I can see keeping the Bose system in an anniversary or special edition car, but other than that, it's gotta GO!!

The big deal with early bose system, mine's an 87, is the speakers are common grounded. Either repin the radio plug or use the correct adapter. I re-wired the head unit plug and bypassed the amps, wired right to the bose drivers. Since I've replaced the speakers but I don't think it sounds any better. Some said the bose drivers wouldn't play well with other equipment. They are only 1.8ohm speakers. They worked fine with the Alpine reciever.
