Default 1989 Corvette Problem

I have a problem where it takes 2 people to open my hood and it is getting really annoying and I am not sure how to fix it.

The problem is, you have to have 2 people to open the hood on the car. I pull the lever under the dash and then the other person has to pull up on the passenger side of the hood.

Also, I am replacing the shift indicator on the corvette and I know how to do it, but I was just wondering if anyone else has done it. I have not done it on a corvette yet, but it is similar with most cars, I was wondering if it was hard to do, medium or easy.

Thanks, Stephen

I'm too lazy to go and uncover my car right now, but it sounds like a cable adjustment or maybe a missing spring. Did you try WD-40 on the latches? I redid my indicator, what exactly are you looking to do?

I have the indicator, the one in mine currently is broken and won't move from drive. I am just looking to take it and and put the new one in.

It sounds like someone took it apart and didn't put the indicator pointer back into it's proper slot, I did that after I repainted it all up, cleaned it all and put it back together I WAS PISSED!! I had to take it all apart and guide the indicator into place and screw it back together. Mine looks new after I redid it. Your plastic glass is probably a little cracked, you can get the whole thing on E-Bay for a few bucks.

You have to remove the center console or at least get it up high enough to just drop the new indicator into the slot and make sure its engaged with the gear shift . I was lucky and mine had just been put back together wrong by the previous owner so all I had to do was hook it to the shifter.....Your hood sounds like it needs adjusting or the spring is weak.. There are adjustments at the end of the cables , just screw the adjustment out on the passenger side until the hood pops when the handle is pulled..It sounds like its not opening the latch far enough for it to pop open.....WW

It's just the indicator is pribably not set, should not be to hard to replace hopefully.

That would suck, what did you repaint, the indicator?

I repainted the background black and the needle red.

Do not put WD40 on the latches. It is not a lubricant. Use good old fashioned grease. But the problem sounds like a broken, missing or misplaced spring.

Old grease on a latch becomes dirty and gritty(with fleks of metal), especially if it's exposed to the outside. A little WD would losen it up. To do it right, clean all old grease off (wipe everything)adjust latches and regrease. Also, hit all (if any) front pivot points with a spray lube.
