Carburator
I used to mess with old school carbed engines back in the days of $.25 a gallon gas when people freaked out about the price hitting $0.30. Back when $5 gave you 1/2 a tank....$2 was what you put in to go to work or do some errands.
With those engines of the day, vac secondarys were subject to being unreliable in many ways. Couldn't always make them open all the way...like high load when you might want more power you didn't get the full opening because of vac fluxuations and other things that effected the opening of the secondary. Carbs may be easier to work with but they are severly limited by the fact that they can;t adapt to the ever changing conditions of a performance street car and perform anywhere near as well as EFI can and does...
After much aggrevation with vac secondary carbs I swapped over to mechanical secondarys and never looked back. That way I could shape the control rods to gimme aggressive opening when I wanted it in the pedal, and could adjust it by adjusting the rod lenght/slack to make it open with the passing gear...so the car really jumped if I wanted. I could set the linkage to open gently as pedal was applied or make them flop open at full pedal and higher rpm and get that burst of power from twice the fuel/air becoming available...when the engine was spooled up and could swallow more without bogging.
I also support the quadrahog statement...they were much better carbs than people were led to believe...when in good shape you got decent fuel economy like a 2bbl or a 450 holley fuel squeezer, but stand in it and those trash can size secondarys opened and roared..! sweetest sound on the planet was an olds 6.6 in a T/A waking up with the quadrajet WFO !

Whatever carb is choosen for this CF vette...its the manifold thats gonna dictate how big and what can be used. If its short (hood clearance) with small ports, then I'd bet its limited to a 600cfm or maybe less. A stock sbc 350 can;t really make use of more than 600-650 cfm anyway. Anything bigger just makes noise.
