Try a Holley 750 with mechanical secondaries from Summit, or if your a pretty good mechanic you can buy a used one on E-Bay (or somewhere) and trick it out.

What holly is on it now? an edelbrock 1406 is a pretty safe bet on a 350.it is a 600 cfm carb with an electric choke. a pretty good out of the box carb. personally i prefer a holly , simple carb to tune, alot of people like the vacumn secondary carbs, i prefer the mechanical secondary dual feed double pump carbs, i would but on a 600 or 650 . for street use its plenty of carb . i wouldn't go any bigger. if you still have the stock 84 motor a 600 is more then enough. for a carb to get the best milage and still have that 4 bbl, nobody likes them , but a quadrajet is a great carb. very small primaries(gets good milage if you keep your foot out of it , and huge secondaries for when you want to use the go peddle. a quadrajet is like 900 cfm fully open if your motor can handle that much, if you go that route make sure you get a small block carb. these were used on s.b b.b chevy, pontiacs , olds, so you get the point. you don't want to put a big block carb on a small block unless your really good at tuning one. if the cast number is for a small block and nobody has messed with it it should run very well.play with the jets and metering rods and you can fine tune these to perform very well annd get decent milage. just my 2 cents; good luck
Identify the one you have and rebuild it. Buy a Holley book and between the book and the rebuild kit you'll be fine. New gasgets, accellerator pumps, secondary springs, floats and needle seats.....Pretty simple with the book.
Have a couple 600s here with vacuum secondarys quick change kit and electric choke. Be going through them soon and offering them up for grabs. They get a lot more attention than just a kit and cleanup.
IMO 750 too much for what you have. A 600 will easily support 350hp
I buy rebuildable Holley cores, too.
I had 1 at the time and put it on my 74 Cutlass with a rocket 350 and the car was a beast. I used 1 on my 77 Grand prix that I bought from Summit but this one had vacumme secondaries and didn't seem as responsive. Maybe a 650 would be just as good, I've also have had alot of good experiences with older Carter AFB's. I have used brand new q-jets from the dealer (pretty expensive) with great results, I've had nothing but trouble with rebuilt q-jets.

the edelbrock carburetors are copies of the old and new AFB's

I remember when they started making them, but I'm afraid of change and haven't really been into all of it for a while. When I had my AFB on my cutlass it was a time when you only really seen one on a Mopar, but that was the best carb I ever had.

I HAVE A COUPLE OF AFB CARBS AND ALSO A EELBROCK 1406 ALONG WITH HOLLEYS AND QUADRAJETS ON THE SHELF IN THE SHOP. FOR A FOR THE HECK OF IT COMPARISON OF THE AFB AND EDELBROCK THEY ARE VERY SIMILAR ALMOST IDENTICAL IN LOOKS. TWO QUICK THINGS I NOTICED WAS THE AIRHORN DIAMETER ON THE AFB WAS SMALLER AT ABOUT 4 1/2 INCH SAME AS THE OLD GM WCFB VS. EDELBROCK OF APPR.4 7/8 SAME AS HOLLEY THROTTLE BORE SIZES ALSO SMALLER AFB VS. EDELBRCK THE BEST I CAN FIND AN AFB WAS A 500 CFM CARB VS. SMALL EDELBROCK BEING 600 CFM. ALSO THE BOLT PATTERN ON THE AFB WAS SMALLER THEN THE SQUAREBORE EDELBROCK OR HOLLEY.SO IF YOU WANT TO USE THE OLDER AFB YOU NEED TO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE DUAL BOLT PATTERN INTAKE WHICH MOST IF NOT ALL AFTERMARKET INTAKES ARE. TO JUST KICKIT UP A NOTCH IF YOU CAN GET A HOLD OF AN OLDER COMPETITION SERIES AFB,HAD A TAG ON THE FRONT OF THE CARB JUST BELOW THE AIRHORN THAT IDENTIFIED IT AS A COMPETITION SERIES,NOW THAT WAS A DAMN GOOD CARB. IT MADE THOSE HEMI STOCK AND SUPER STOCKS RUN THE BIG NUMBERS THEY RAN.
Ya know.....Ya got me thinkin, It was 20yrs ago but it was the AFB that ran the best on my Olds. A friend was rebuilding a Roadrunner and I sold it to him and went with a Holley THEN a Q-jet (rebuilt) and though they were o.k., the car ran the best with the Carter. It WAS an older one and I remember it having a little metal tag on it too. I guess my friend knew what it was because he sure wanted it.
