I am having my engine pulled this weekend. The head gasket it seems has blown. The engine wouldn't even turn over to move the car. It has been sitting for 3 months. I decided to go ahead and rebuild the thing since it has 194,000 miles !!! Full roller rocker kit (6-8HP) Edelbrock 3860 with SLP runners ported and gasket matched (20HP) mild Comp cam 12-417-8 with springs etc. (30-35HP) reduced pulley set (8-10HP) Hedman long tube runners with Flowmaster cats and mufflers no damn resonator. (25HP) I am hoping my guess is correct with my HP estimates. I have had enough BS with this car and the engine troubles. God help me if anything should go wrong with the rebuild. I only need to get a chip made for it after its back from the muffler shop. I guesstimate Dec 10 back in action. After the 500 miles I am gonna run that car to LA from Mesa AZ. I will push it to 5500rpm and see if I can hit 175mph ? I have a Hypertech coil as well. I did 140mph no problem and that was with the old tired stock set up.
Wow, I admire your perseverance and glad you got somewhere with the problem. The acorn didn't fall far from the tree, I see. Haven't been in the C4 section for a few mos. since my new acquisition. Good luck.
JoeB do you think I am right about my ultimate HP gains ? 310-330HP ? I am not going to spend $1200 to have it Dyno tuned. A shop in Phx is the only one I could find to do it and they want $1200. I contacted Wong's Performance in Vancouver WA. I told him my situation and he recommended the 12-417-8 cam since its not too far off from the original. He said my idle will most likely be whats messed up. He told me once it is all put together to mail him my factory chip so he can modify it. Cost $200. It seems every chance I get to email someone or chat about the build I go through and rattle off every detail to whoever will listen ! Now I just want to get in and start it up and take off. Oh I also put 13" J55 brakes up front and slotted drilled rotors all the way around.
Final update: took the engine out completely and cleaned all of those deposits out with water hose. Also disassembled engine down to the short block. I believe i got abput 90% of that stuff out. Put it back in the car and havent had that problem again. Went ahead and filed a claim with Bar s Products with my lawyer to back me up. After sending them samples and a calculation on how much it would have cost for me to send to a shop and repair. They eventually agreed to pay me $1300, which was 50% of my claim. They just wanted me to relay that they stand behind their products and take customer satisfaction very seriously. Car has over 1000 miles on new build, some small issues, but at least i can drive it to work and around town.

Ryan, good job on keeping at it.....bad job on using head gasket sealant.
Truth be told, that sealant did what it was supposed to do....it sealed....sadly it sealed things that didn't need to be sealed off.
Moral to the story, if the head gasket is blown, replace the head gasket. Band Aids very rarely are a cure.
