Default ARH merged collectors

I was under the car changing the tranny fluid today and snapped a picture of the ARH headers with the merge spike in the middle where the primaries come together. I believe ARH is the only manufacturer that does this for the c4 Vettes, and as I mentioned in the past, these headers were good for .10-.15 seconds over Hooker Super Comps.

I installed a set of these on my 1985 track car. I have not had a chance to go the track yet but that is coming when the weather dries out sometime. The fit required a few modifications from the prior set of headers. The main thing was relocating the oil filter because with the oil cooler diverter it put the filter to low that the headers hit it. That has been taken care of now. I replaced the older headers (12 years of track use) due to cracking of welds, tubes, and flaking of the coating. Hopefully the SS headers last at least as long. Here are a few pictures.

I remotely mounted my oil filter too when I wanted to use a Moroso kickout pan with the oil cooler. We have the filters mounted in the same place. This picture has the old Hookers.

What size primaries? Are either of you running the stepped header?

That's a hella tight looking fit.

Mine are the same size primaries as 383vett.
My pan is a Canton RR pan.
Yes things can be tight with mods to the car. Sometimes while I am working my way through the challenges of a mod I wonder why I put myself through this Well the car is fun to drive on the track is all I can come up with.

Do the headers come with the slip on adapters or do you have to buy them separate? I've got ball and socket type connectors on my Headman Elite's. I'd really like to get 1 7/8" headers eventually.

Thanks! (And yes )

You should see my old LPE 1 3/4" longtubes with the canton RR. It basically touches on the driver's side. When these rust out I can consider the ARHs now. Thanks for posting the pics.

The headers have slip fit collectors. So you either buy an ARH Y-pipe or modify a previous one or have a muffler shop build you one. I had a muffler shop modify the Y-pipe from my previous headers.

Do you notice an increase in underhood temps going from coated headers to stainless steel (non coated).

Id like to get the stainless headers ceramic coated. I don't follow the (bs flag) about it being bad to coat stainless steel bc it keeps the heat in the metal.

We are talking about a few hundred degrees here, not thousands.

I also heard a tuner say that cars w/ uncoated headers can run more timing before detonation on the dyno.

Don't you think the headers would heat soak and then it won't matter whether coated or uncoated?

I just had a little experiment with ceramic coating lately...

I recently had the #7 tube of my TPIS longtube headers modified, the required cutting the original tube out and having a new (uncoated) tube welded in.

Well, the headers were ceramic coated, but I didn't have the time to get them re-done, and I really didn't want to considering it was just one tube that had been modified. So instead, I just bought some of the high-heat spray paint that you find at Autozone.

After getting everything installed and tuned up again I wanted to check the temperatures of the primaries to see what the difference was. Guess what? There was ZERO difference in temperature from the #7 primary versus the #1, #2, and #8. I don't like comparing temps of 3, 5, 4, 6 because they are siamesed together and usually read higher that the outer four because of it...but those temps were consistent side to side.

There are ceramic coating that do reduce heat, but they are much more expensive than your standard Jet-Hot or HPC.

In my opinion the Jet-Hot/HPC style ceramic coating is really only good for corrosion resistance if you live in a humid area, or where they use salt on the roads. Beyond that, just get the paint it'll do you just as good...

Do they make an offering for a spread port cylinder head (ie. sb2.2)?

I bought this Y-pipe from ARH. It slips on and fits perfectly. I modified it to dump after the Y. I run this way at the strip which drops the db level to below the 115db limit without a muffler. The y-pipe was not bolted up in the pic, hence the crooked bolt.
