Default 90 C4 Rear View Mirror

So I was driving today and my rear view mirror fell off and was hanging by the wires. Got it home to take a look. Well the hole that the screw goes into is completely stripped out. In fact the hole has no threads that I can see. Looks like a previous owner had the base glued somehow with the screw being just for looks. Mirror is still in great shape otherwise. Any ideas on how I can get the mirror to re-attach and maintain a tight fit? Could I have it tapped out maybe and use a larger screw? Any help would be great and thank you as always.

That would be my thought, after trying a self-tapping screw.

The sheet metal is thin, so use a fine thread bolt, i.e. like a 10-32 etc, or a fine pitch self tapping.
