Default sway bar poly bushing troubles

I removed the cooked original bushings from my rear sway bar and I can't get the new ones in. I have used a vise with sockets, I tried a bolt with a flat washer and a nut to try and screw it through. The bushing keeps distorting and I just can't get it to go in straight. I have had no problems with the struts and the camber but the sway bar ends are driving me crazy. I am using energy suspension and it's an lt4. I have searched and tried all the forum suggestions. I am stuck. any help? Thanks

IIRC, the rear bar ends have steel sleeves that need to be removed before putting in the new bushings. Could that be the problem?

[QUOTE=RUU;1580560074]IIRC, the rear bar ends have steel sleeves that need to be removed before putting in the new bushings. Could that be the problem? I thought that you left those sleeves in place. You are talking about the inserts on the end of the bar where one side is flat and the other side sticks out a little. It's the same insert that the sway bar end links have. I don't think I would have any problem getting in the new bushings if I pressed these out but I thought that you just removed the rubber bushing and the metal sleeve/tube inside the bushing. Please correct me if I am wrong on this. I do think that the new bushings will go in without removing the sleeves, I just can't seem to keep the bushing from distorting when I press it in. The top or bottom or sides will wander and I can't get it to stay straight. This is the only thing keeping me from putting my car back together and hitting the road so it's frustrating as hell. any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone

No instructions with the bushing kit? Go to Energy Suspensions website for a .pdf maybe or call them for some tech info.

Good luck!

Pretty sure I removed mine based on comments in threads like this. Though there are also threads where people claim to have left the sleeves in place. They go in real easy (pretty sure I only needed a light-duty C-clamp) if the sleeves are removed.

I removed the sleeves and the bushings went right in so now I am afraid that they are not in tight enough because the sleeve is out. I am also wondering about what to do with the sleeve in the end link. This sucks. I have spent hours searching the forum. I am not a great mechanic so I have these battles. I managed to press in one bushing into the end link while leaving the metal sleeve in but it looks all distorted and out of shape. I nee to post some pics so you guys can critique and ridicule my incompetence. I'll get it done though. I am dying to get back on the road
