Default 1984 low speed issues

Hi,

I just bought a 1984 C4 Corvette with the crossfire v8 in it. Love the car. I am trying to flip it. It has issues in first gear where it feels like there is transmission issues. The car fights to go forward and it feels like something mechanical is holding it back.

How to explain this, it sort of surges and feels like something is binding on and off. This only happens at low speeds, the car is more or less fine on the highway. I have had both the slave and master clutch cylinders replaced. One of the mechanics I had look at it said it was not the tranny or the clutch. They went so far as to disconnect the rear brakes and slowly drive it around the parking lot without issue.

Now supposedly its the rear calipers, which to fix I was quoted over 600 dollars. Then I called Midas and the guy said it could be the master cylinder up front and or the proportioning valve.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Joel

If it is brakes, jack up a wheel and check for sticking issues....you'll know right away.

It could be something binding up, half shafts and u-joints.....

No, although I do credit this as a valid question seeing the unique setup of the e-brakes in these cars.

I took it to a different mechanic and they seem to think that it is the rear brakes, specifically the calipers. They quoted me over 600 dollars to do the repair. I don't really have the space or my tools right now, which puts me in an interesting predicament.

Thanks for the replies all.

600 bucks buys an awful lot of tools.

It is possible that the rear calipers simply need to be lubricated in order to travel properly. Lubricate them and give it a try. If that doesn't work, then see if they need replacement.

Ya gotta jack the thing up and investigate it. Then you'll know what is up. At least with the drive shaft, diff, axles, and brakes.

Default fuel pump

So after paying to have the clutch and clutch slave replaced, rear breaks replaced and the shifting linkage lubed (all of which made small improvements) it is my belief that it is either the in tank fuel pump and or the throttle bodies.

Since the fuel pump is easy I figured I would go ahead and replace that.

Let me know what you guys think, I value your advise.

I have read online that putting the tpi pump in solves a lot of problems.
