The shifter cable coming out of the tranny tunnel to the tranny must have made a right turn over the centerline on the way to the transmission linkage and got kinked or crushed. See if you can free it up. If not, you'll have to drop the tail of the tranny to undo what is kinked or binding.

The shifter cable actually came Uncrimped on the inside of the car. I am wondering where the brake booster vacuum goes aswell as I am having a problem with overheating. The car currently has no thermostat but I beleive the timing may be off ? When in drive it doesn't seem to have much power but it is idling fine?

Don't forget to hook up the wire connector for the timing advance by the brake booster. As far as the cooling make sure you have a 50/50 mix coolant/water. Put the thermostat back in. Cooling systems require that restriction in the system to slow down the flow of coolant through the radiator for the purpose of being cooled down.

timing was set correctly for the engine with cam installed figure out the lower intake was leaking but this still would not cause my headers to glow red or the car to run hot. mechanic said replace water pump and do intake and it would fix it. water pump is also brand new. any ideas anyone? had the car brought home until i know for sure what is going on im not dumping any more money into this car
