Would it hurt to install a 150 Amp alternator in place of the stock one that went bad? I don't know the amperage of the stock one but I think it was considerably less. The alternators look the same. This is on my '85 Corvette.
Hi the 85 vette has a 140 amp alternator (standard)
The 150 amp will suit fine as long as it is the same SI type.
I would not recommend a lesser amp alternator.
I have upgraded my alternator to the more reliable CS type, (86-91) they are 105 amp in standard form and you will notice the volts drop at idle. I have since installed a 140 amp CS alternator, to stop the annoying low volts light coming on after prolonged idle with a/c and lights on.
All good now.
