C5 power seat problem
When I push the switch forward,it does nothing.
I had the seat out,and didn't find any broken or loose wires that I could see.
Also,I can press the memory key,and it will move forward, but not as much as needed.
Thus,I can tell the motor is working.
On here,it was mentioned about the relay box under the seat having bad solder joints.
I figured my problem might be in that relay box OR the switch itself.
I was wondering, since it will move forward some with the memory key, then does that mean the relay box in the bottom of the seat is good?(If the relay were out, would it move at all, even with the memory switch?)
IF that were to eliminate the relay box, then it would probably be in the switch itself ?
Any help would be appreciated,as I hate to spend approx $150 for a switch I don't need.
Also, can the switch be repaired?(It looks to be made NOT to come apart, but I knew if it could be done, that you guys on here are the best at figuring out things like that.)
Any and all help is appreciated. (2000 coupe)
Thanks.
With that cleared up, however, you sound like you can handle doing some of the diagnostics yourself rather than paying a mechanic to do it.
It sounds like the switch, as the memory function actually becomes the switch when you are recalling a seat position.
If the seat is moving (even an inch) forward after recalling a memory position, then the relay must be working.
I would bet on the switch. One easy way to test it would be to remove the switch, and manually jump the wire that command the seat to move forward. For the driver's seat, forward movement, connect a jumper wire from terminal 14 (grey wire at the end of the connector) of the switch connector to ground. If the seat moves in the forward direction, your switch is bad. If the seat doesn't move, then it's the relay, or the wiring to the relay or motor.
Hope this helps,
Nick
Thanks for the info.
I'll see if I can give it a try,and see what happens.
Sorry about being on the wrong forum...I had been scanning C5 info, and must have read some C4 info and was still on it when I entered my post.
(We still have our 85 vette TPI-L98,and still love to drive it. Donna prefers driving the 85 over the 2000....Gotta love those C4's !)
Anyway thanks again for the help, and I'll give it a try.
