I'm sure there has been many threads on this but tried to search and got no results. Whats the best oil to use in the ZF.....I have a 93 LT1 and am replacing the oil in it......
Agreed, there's a very friendly supplier on this Forum who have it shipped to you within days....think about getting Amsoil brake fluid, and diff fluid while you're at it and save on shipping.
At lot of guys run the Amsoil Syncromesh and it seems to be good.
A few others and me included run the Redline Lightweight Shockproof Gear Oil aka Smurf Blue. It is a little stiff when cold, but butter after a few minutes. No complaints, this stuff will protect your box.

I'm sure you will be happy with either product.
I use Smurf blood in mine. Thousands of road course miles over the last 10+ years and no issues [knock on wood]

I may have said this before but a redline phone rep recommended against using lightweight shockproof in the ZF6. They say MTL is the correct Redline replacement... http://www.redlineoil.com/product.aspx?pid=45&pcid=7
But, I use the Amsoil and find it as good/better than the stock lube.
I just changed the fluid on my 1996 GrandSport as the shifting was getting a bit notchy.
I used Amsoil and my transmission shifts a lot easier, I am very happy with it. Also got some shrink tubing (to cover the open connectors) and disconnected CAGS after 15 years of living with the damn thing.
I am much happier with the shift quality now.

IDK, but 96GS#007 has certainly proven it to work. I guess the MTL would work too. I know of a guy who uses the Shock Proof, changes it every 15K and has it analyzed. Always comes back clean. To each his own as long as it works.
