Default I Need More Performance Package Available?

Well like the title states I would like the car to be a bit quicker. Does any of the vendors have a kit for the C4 with the L98 to make it quicker?

I know the car has been out for ages so I was really hoping for something that might be a HCI type of upgrade path?? Right now I need a tuneup and some exhaust. Who makes a decent sounding exhaust? What should be upgraded?

Any help would be appreciated.

THANKS

Closest thing would be one of Lloyd Elliot's packages.

Biggest question would be what are your goals?
How much money do you have to spend?

HP ain't cheap, gears are not that cheap.

Also what year and transmission?

I really liked the magna flow that I had on my 84. I also like the Tri flow system I have on my 90 ZR1. Personally, I think the straight through designs are best. The chambered systems resonate too much for my taste.

As far as other performance items, think carefully before you spend money. Example: don't spend the money on a bigger TB if your manifold will just become the weakest link. Set realistic HP goals and then make a plan. I have 560hp and its overkill. 400-450 is probably a good goal.

You need to at least provide the year, whether manual trans or auto, and what your goals are. How many miles are on the car now? Is the engine in good condition overall? No smoke, good compression, etc.

What about suspension, tires and brakes? If you're gonna go fast, the car will have to handle, corner, and stop.

Remember the old adage: "Speed costs money. How fast do you want to go?"

Are you required to have the car emissions tested?

For the money, going with a higher (numerically) gear ratio will provide a perceived increase in power. Going from say a 3.07 to a 3.54 or even a 3.73 will make a huge difference in acceleration but not really hurt cruising speeds and maybe only a loss of 1-2 MPG. Even with the high cost of gas in Canada, that may not be a bad deal.

Headers, X-pipe and a good free-flowing exhaust system can be worth up to 20HP but expect to pay a grand or so. If the engine needs a rebuild, then consider more cubic inches (383??) better heads, cam and valvetrain, and hopefully finding a good intake. The L98's TPI intake can be made to flow better but it is a limiting factor in the ability of the engine to breathe.

Suggest that you check out Vader86's home page. He has a lot of information on L98 builds, what works and what doesn't This would at least give you a basic starting point.

Like those posts above have said....HP Costs money....just depends on what your goals are and how much you have to spend.

The car is an 88 convertible with 60000 miles not really sure on rear end gears with an automatic. The car needs a tune up and some mechanical odds and ends. I bought the car years ago in 88 when I got into school. I gave it to my dad with it in need of a new top some time in the late 90's early 2000's. He put the top down and drove it as a convertible for the last decade or so parking it in the garage when he was done.

Now the car is in desperate need of a top some paint and body work on the rear end and more power. I am more of a track guy to be honest and really when it comes to this vehicle no budget is really considered. The car is purely a hobby after work and some time btw the golf course and the boat. I would like to keep the original motor L98 if at all possible. As well as some variant of the TPI system. I would be more then willing to do Heads Cam Intake Exhaust. I would like to put somewhere around 400hp to the wheels if it is possible and would consider FI as well.

I hope that is more helpful..

Thanks

Remember that it is still just a small block 350 so it will respond just like one from years ago, just a bit more complicated. More air and gas in..more up out. As long as the short block is in decent shape, heads, cam, better exhaust and a good tune should get you there. Be toter gearing helps and might be a good starting point.

gears, an intake swap for the TPI, headers, then whatever you can afford from lloyd should get you a snappy car with a boost in HP.

Does Lloyd Elliot do L98 work? It does not appear on his web site unless I have the wrong one? Does any one have a link?

THANKS
