I am having problems with my 1989 l98 vette the fuel pump is staying running and pulling the fire out of the battery I un plugged the fuel pump relay on the firewall and it still runs is there any other relay that I should check
dude, CHILL. today, a $20 part, tomorrow a $200 part - ??? all i said was to preform a simple fuel pressure check. damn, the engine is 23 years old - why not just replace that too. no flames, but too many people don't have a clue WTF's wrong, but they know if they replace enough stuff, eventually, they can fix anything. i guess i old school - if it ain't broke, dont fix it! i've wasted enough time on this thread -
I agree check it out properly. The car is worth it. Forget the $$$ do the job properly.
could check the connections in the fuel pump....if you have a pulsator too, fuel line could be popping out when pump turns on....you'll lose pressure fast...it will reconnect when pump shuts off........a guage on your rail will tell you....it's what you need to do first....

There is also an oil pressure switch in parallel with the fuel pump relay that turns on the fuel pump when the oil pressure is higher than 4 PSI. It might be stuck in the closed position. The power for the fuel pump comes directly from the battery, which is why the fuel pump runs with the ignition off. Unplug the connector and see if that fixes your problem.
The oil pressure switch is the part with the orange and red wires:
I'm not positive, but it's possible that you have the combination oil pressure switch and oil pressure sender. The combination switch/sender came into use around 1989. In that case it would be in the same area (back of engine behind distributor) with a connector with 3 wires. Unplug the connector.
