Default Skip Shift Eliminator Bypass?

How hard is it to install one of these?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/CORVETTE-SKI...2260aa&vxp=mtr

I'm getting tired of having to battle for 2nd gear.

It takes longer to jack the car up than to install it.

Thanks. Would a vacuum leak affecting my idle also effect the Skip Shift? It wants to go from 1st to 4th at excessively slow speeds.

Skip Shift is a function of speed and rpm while driving. It would have to be one hell of a vacuum leak.

Thanks. I thought it operated off a specific vacuum pressure.

I got sick of my CAGS after 15 years of owning my GrandSport Vette.
Last oil change (Engine and Transmission) with the car jacked up, I disconnected the plug on the drivers side of the transmission. It is very easy to do once the car is jacked up. I did not buy any special plug I just put shrinkable tubing on the plug and the connector (transmission side). This wiil keep any dirt away from the contacts. And disconnecting it this way instead of the special adapter also will not trip the service engine soon light!

When I disconnected mine ('96) I got a SES with DTC1657 - this was with the wiring disconnected at the transmission, then disconnected at the relay. Wired up a 2 watt/250ohm resistor to the wiring, no more CEL but the 2-4 Shift Lamp still illuminates on the dash. My understanding is this can be turned off with a Tech2 but bro-in-law hasn't been able to get his back so we can see...

I am not at all surprised people disconnect them. What a pain in the ****. IMO, it has to do damage to the clutch and engine bearings. I've probably put 75 miles on mine and it has got to go. I wasn't aware that I'd get a code response though.

The only time it would do any damage is if you try to shift while the "One To Four" light is on.
Skip shift operates within very narrow parameters.

Just hold in 1st gear slightly longer until the rpm's are above the parameter, and the light will go back out allowing you to shift into 2nd.

But if you try to force a shift into 2nd while the solenoid is trying to prevent it, then yes you will cause damage.

With that said, it is very easy to disable.
I have the skip shift eliminator installed on my. The light on the dash still comes on, but the solenoid does not operate and prevent shifts to 2nd.
No codes either.

1 to 4 only engages between 12-19 mph and under 35% throttle, according to the manual in my '92

Phat98 I have had mine disconnected for several months and over 600 miles, I have no SES light on! I disconnected mine at the transmission too.
Strange that yours set a code.

My SES light came on immediately after starting the engine and throws that DTC. It is considered part of the emissions system, perhaps yours got tuned out?

Bro-in-law got his Tech2 back and we were "playing" with it last night - you CAN disable the CAGS with the Tech2, but only as long as you're in that diagnostic mode...when you exit out it gets re-enabled.

FWIW, if you have OBD II tuning software, you can go in and disable it. Technically you just change the parameters such that it will never meet the criteria to engage. I use LT1 Edit for OBD II and that's how I tuned mine out. Prior to buying the tuning software, I pulled the plug and inserted the resistor.

I have owned my GrandSport since new, no tune has ever been performed. This is interesting though. My skip shift light still lights when I am driving slow but no SES light.
Do you think GM tuned the cars differently?

One never knows. What's your VIN? Curious how that might compare to Phat98.

My last 6 is 108946, build is mid-December '95. I've got the build sheet, nothing out of the ordinary that I can see...

What brand is the switch? I’m getting one this week. TIA
