I have the opportunity to buy a bare block that's been bored, honed, cleaned, decked and has the cam bearings and freeze plugs installed for a great price.
Only problem is I don't plan on having the funds to do a 383 like I want till sometime mid NEXT summer.
I was wondering if there would be any issue leaving a block set in my garage all summer and winter? Would the bearings go bad, or would I get any kind of rust/issues to deal with being that isn't not sealed/oiled up?
My theory is...It'd be pointless to drop 500 for a block that's basically done if I'd need to spend it all over again cleaning it up.
So, yay or nay....should I get the block now or not?
Go to Oreillys get a can of fogging oil and spray the cyls bearings lifter bores down good....or oil up however you want. Then bag it tight it will be fine. If you can use a shopvac and suck out most the air even better.

soak a galley brush with oil and run it down all the oil galleys. You want to prevent any hidden pockets of rust scale. Of course abstinence would be the most responsible choice (Yah thats gonna happen!)
Whether you use it now or later, I assume that you have had or will have the block magnafluxed before purchase. If you are using it a year from now, it may be quite difficult to chase the seller down for a refund if there is a crack somewhere in the block.
