trans shifting problems

Default trans shifting problems

went for a ride today. kicked it into passing gear and everything was fine. at the next light it would not shift pass first gear unless you put it to the floor(passing gear again) then it would shiftthrough the gears but i dont beleive it made it to overdrive. any susgestions.
it a 84 with a 700r4

It is possible that your Throttle Valve cable slipped or broke or became disconnected. It can be adjusted at your throddle body using a simple procedure. If you're lucky and it just slipped (why it slipped is another question) - what you have to do is (with the engine NOT running!) push the little D button in while either cranking your throttle to wide open position or have someone depress the accelerator to the floor. You should hear a few clicks as it automatically resets itself while doing this procedure. Good luck!

I had to have all the cables reset from scratch.

checked tv cable seems fine not broken and moves freely. went for a short drive started the same no shift. stopped and turned around and manually shifted and it worked fine. turned around again placed in drive and it shifted fine WHAT GIVES could have a valve in the valve body stuck? will take it on a longer drive after rush hour. got free towing!!!
