Fixed my o2 sensor & went out for a long ride. Oil temp is now displaying Lo. Going to check connection to sensor. If that's not loose what else should I check?

It may be the sensor itself, "Lo" is the default setting for the sensor..When mine went bad it wouldn't read anything but "Lo"..These sensors aren't cheap, I paid $80.00 for mine..If you have a Factory Service Manual it should tell you how to check the wires and switch first to make sure they aren't the problem....WW
you ain't kidding about the price. ranging from $53 to $100. Auto zone has a oil temp switch listed @ $19.00. Is there realy a difference?
If it $19.00 its not the oil temp sensor, I've never seen one that cheap. It's a sensor, not a switch..I drove mine for a few months without any known oil temperture showing , but its better to have one thats working. Most normal cars don't have an oil temp gauge, just an oil pressure gauge...WW
Unplug the connector from the oil temperature sensor and ground the connector. You should see a very high temperature on the dash. This will tell you if the wiring and dash are good.
Cliff, I tried to ground the wire but it still read LO so I just cleaned it and replugged it and all worked well. I don't understand what I did wrong because I'm sure your advice on how to test is correct. I'm just glad it's working again. I feel like Im $100 richer. Thank you for the assist.
Glad you got it working. Most cars don't have an oil temp sensor. Unless you are into road racing, it's really not that important. I use it at the drags to make sure my oil temp is at 150 before I make a pass. Now an oil pressure gauge is a different matter.
I just changed my Castrol regular motor oil to Mobil 1 10W-30 synthetic. I also put a K&N oil filter on. Now I noticed my oil temps are as high 260+ degree's. Normal driving never raised my temp to over 260 degree's. Any thoughts ? My L-98 has over 193,000 miles on it and still runs strong. I can reach 140mph no problem (3500 rpm) and faster if I wanted to push it. All stock except for K&N air filter, smooth air coupler and a upgraded air foil. Other than that 2 Dynomax mufflers. I usually drive around 70-80 mph on the freeway. I dont want to kill that old engine with high oil temps. I have had the car less than a year and it is my first Corvette. Sadly I always drove Nissan Z sports cars. Never again.
I loved the 280 ZX's that being said my oil temp has never gotten that high unless you count the time I over heated and blew a head gasket. But then again I've never been able to get mine to go 140 mph
My oil temps are usually within about 10 degrees or so of my coolant temps. I do have the Z51 option which has the oil cooler, so that might be a factor.

Even without an oil cooler mine never gets higher then 18-20 degrees higher then the coolant temp...WW
My oil temp never went over 255 degree's even when I was driving over 100mph. Recently I changed my regular Castrol motor oil to synthetic Mobil 1 10W-30. Since doing that my oil temps have been higher than ever before. My coolant tends to run 200-220. At night my coolant stays 190 degrees on the freeway. I was told maybe go with a thicker synthetic oil. I am tempted to install a oil cooler. I have over 193,000 miles on this engine. I hate to trash it with high temps. Am I over reacting ? Stock L-98
In AZ I would be running 20-50 it's never going to get cold enough to need thinner than 20. With all those miles you have gained a bunch of bearing clearance compared to when new. I also would not consider the factory gauges race grade and certainly no lab grade. Comparative to what is normally seen a better guideline. Your old worn out oil pump is at capacity now just feeding the engine I suspect the load of an oil cooler would cut pressure to the bearings and that will be the END...

In other words what he's saying is " If it ain't broke , don't fix it".......WW
