Hello all,
I have starting problems with my C4 (90).
A view months ago I had problems with the VATS. Most times when I turned the ignition key nothing happened. Then I bought the "Security Override System" to bypass the VATS and everything worked fine.
Since one week I have starting problems again. By turning the key there is not even a klick of the starter or something like that. But the whole situation is a little different. The car doesn't start in the morning hours, but in the evening when I am back from work, the car starts fine. I have checked the wiring connectors and they are ok.
Is that a known problem?
Had the same problem on my 89 roadster, replaced starter, battery, cables, bypassed vats and still the same thing, DO THIS, attach a wire to the small post of your starter, there are two there, a largre one and a little one make it long enough to go over to your battery, when it refuses to start turn the key on place the one end of the wire to the positive end of battery, this bypasses the total dash and should start the engine,if it starts then your problem is in your dash, there is a security piece behind your dic and it probably has to be replaced,. it cured mine cost about $12

What kind of security piece was it and were did you buy it?
I think he's talking about the "start enable relay". It's not a Corvette specific part, so any GM dealership might have it in stock. That might or might not be what's wrong with your car, but I had to replace mine also, so it is a possibility.
I tried to find that "start enable relay" but I cant find it.
Should it be behind the insrument panel (DIC ????) of my 90th vette?
Do you have a part no. ?
The start enable relay is behind the middle of the instrument panel in the multi use center which is an open box with about 5 relays attached. Since you installed a VATS bypass, this relay is bypassed I belielve so it should not be involved in your no crank problem unless the bypass connects a resistor in place of the pellet contacts from the ign sw. The start solenoid gets power normally through the start contacts in the ign sw to the start enable relay to the clutch switch (xmsn selector sw if auto), then to the "s" terminal on the starter motor. The ignition switch gets power from the battery through a fusible link then through the firewall connector to S203 over by the plug going in to the fuse box and from S203 to the ign sw. You need to trace 12v from the red wire on the ign sw to the yellow wire going to the start enable relay contacts to the green/white wire to the clutch sw to the purple wire to the starter and determine where 12v is interrupted when the ign key is in the crank position.
This happened to my 90 last summer. I replaced the starter and added a heat shield. Problem still persisted. Upon advice from a forum member, I checked the connection under the steering column. I cleaned the connection. I then replaced my key. After that no more problems. I did not want to overide the security system as it was functional. After getting a neew key the problem was solved. My car only had 32k on the clock but the key was worn. This might be something to try. Alot cheaper and easier than a starter or taking it to the dealer.

I'm not sure where it's located on a '90. Someone posted a diagram of it
a few months ago and it looked to me like it was behind the instrument
panel. The number I have is 12010015.
I have bypassed the "neutral start switch" now, maybe this will solve the problem !!!!!!
I'll try to find the start enable relay.
I have a wiring diagram too, but it's from 85 throu 87. So I don't know if it is already valid for my '90.
