Default Service ASR ?

Some times I notice that my service ASR light is on. I have no idea what this really means. I have found that if I turn the car off the light seams to go out and that makes me feel better. I feel uncomfortable driving with any of the warning lights on.

ASR = Acceleration Slip Regulation, aka Traction Control. You'll need to pull the codes to find out exactly what's causing the problem.

What year is this C4? You can pull codes via the Instrument Panel Display. The procedure is listed in the FSM and I'm sure doing a search here will find it. Start with that. Is it on all the time you are driving?

I don't have a FSM yet. Only owned this car for a few months. It's a 92. Sometimes I notice the light on while I'm driving, if I pull over and turn the ignition off and restart the car it seams to go away. Can you talk me through pulling the codes? I did just order a used scanner off of Ebay. Unfortunately it only works on cars made after 1996, found this out after I bought it. So the scanner will be useless.

Try Auto Zone or other parts stores. Some will extract codes for you for free.

Not on a 92 OBDI car. They do post 96 OBDII stuff. Even at that most do not have a code reader worth a poop to pull ABS/or any other non-generic OBDII protocol codes.

Jumper Pin G of the DLC to ground and turn on ignition. It is the pin to the bottom far left.
The CCM should automatically display any codes stored.
CCM is module 1
ECM is module 4
ABS/ASE EBTCM is module 9

Each codes is displayed for 3 seconds followed by a 1 second pause till the next DTC appears. There is a 3 second pause between modules as well. The end of the list is indicated by --- on the display.
Your now in manual mode, use the trip/reset button to cycle thru the modules, get to module 9.0. TO enter a module press the trip/odo button until 9.1 appears. Then hit the engish/metric button to display codes. Continue to hit this button until --- appears that is all the codes in the module.
The fuel info button will take you backwards on the list.

Hope this helps.

To be honest this is over my head. Not that I can't do it, but I have no idea what the DLC even looks like. I think I understand what Rubie was kind enough to tell me though. I can manually retrieve the codes. I just ordered the FSM. My hope now is to look through it once it arrives and adding Rubie's info be able to get the codes out of my car. I guess I will need more guidance once I get the codes. I have owned C3 vettes for many years. Looks like it's time to update my wrenching skills with a my C4.

The DLC also called ALDL is the diagnostic connector just above your knee when sitting in the drivers seat, see below for a diagram.

Not rocket science, you can do it.

This is starting to make make sense to me(scary). When I grd "G" do I just put a jumper wire to the car's frame? I have made a jumper in the past with alligator clips on it(now I have to find it) After grding it I just follow Rubies instructions right?

Not even that hard. Pin "A" is ground so just connect "G" to "A" with a paper clip then turn the key to the on position.

I found this on reading codes http://corvettephotographs.com/c4vettes/codes.htm
I just did it and it worked.
Maybe I should start a new thread for code help?
1. C12--- 4.H22 H63--- 9.H64 --- 1.0
I have no idea what any of that means.

This is a good article for reading codes as well
http://tech.corvettecentral.com/2011...trouble-codes/

No issue with running the car with ASR and/or ABS on. ASR stops the car from breaking traction if you get too heavy footed on the acceleration and the rear tires slip and ABS stops the brakes from locking up under extreme braking conditions.

Other then C12, the other codes are historical, I would try clearing the codes then reading them right after you have the ASR/ABS light come on.

Ok, your code 22 for your ECM and your Code 64 for your ASR/ABS are the same issue. Throttle Position Sensor. Both modules are detecting a fault with it. I would wait till you get your FSM and follow the DTC chart for the ECM code 22 as fixing that will probably fix your ASR codes as well.

Your in for a big time skills upgrade when it comes to C4's compared to C3's. C3's in 81 and 82 had very very very basic ECM ONLY functions.

Your 92, its thoroughly modern car (compared with a C3) with full computerized controls of just about everything. Not a bad thing just a different animal than a C3.

Being historical codes I would clear them and see what comes back.
