tonight im racing a kid in his new s2000, do i have a chance? He just bought in new off the showroom floor yesterday. Its his first sportscar thats a stick but i rode with him and it seems pretty strong and hes a fairly decent stick driver.
I think it depends on how good of a driver the person you are racing is. I have heard that you have to spin the S2000 way up high to get any power so you'll smoke him off the line...at least hopefully. I think it will be a close race...closer than a race between a 13 year old sports car and a sports car less than three years old should be! I think it is funny how people that have newer pony cars say that their brand new car is just as fast as my '91. How long of a race is it going to be? That could very well be the determining factor.
He bought it yesterday? Hand him his azz. I figure it takes about 10,000 miles on the road to really get to know how to drive any car as fast as it will go. After 24hrs, you only know how to drive it badly.
I raced one.... It wasnt from a stop... It was from about 50.... i was def faster then him.. then i realized i was doing about 150 so i kinda slowed down... He wasnt keeping up on top end... He at no point was pulling on me. the faster we went.... the faster i pulled. Hes not gonna know how to launch his car... just the fact that he doesnt know the car. He can be a great driver..... but doesnt know how to drive that car. You should def beat him if the speeds get high enough. Be careful and have fun
P.S. Make sure you have yourself an open road or bring it to the track..... doing 150 is stupid...... but there was no 1 esle around to get hurt beside myself and him so...
I have an 88 with an auto trans with 3:45 D44 rear and a few other minor mods. My car has only been timed twice in the quarter mile. It ran a 14.1 and then a 13.8 under very bad track conditions and that was with my cousin who never raced my car. So let me say this, I've seen those S2000 and they are not impressive at all. You're gonna kill him. Just don't fall asleep at the wheel if you're gonna battle him on the track.
There is nothing like breaking in a new engine with a few 1/4 mile runs!
Crush him for being stupid :yesnod:
You are soooo right...
the S2000 is a high strung 4 banger... killer power... but it takes a 9000rpm redline to get there... however, honda, if I remember rightly, does not recommend redlining for the first 500 miles or so...
240hp from a 2 liter is killer... but below 6000rpm its a dog.
That is a good point...reving you engine to 9,000rpms in its first day is always a great idea! Maybe he already has some fart pipes on there too! That is good for 35hp! :jester
Alot to racing is psychology. You should get him out of the hole and that will **** him off so just stay on it! He'll probably start missing gears and start making excuses! The hole shot is like a throwing the first punch in a fight!
An S2000 much be driven like you absolutely HATE the car to get the power out of it.
Exactly. Unless he's willing to side-step the clutch at 6,000 rpm when he launches, you'll pull a huge lead that he'll never be able to make up. of course, if this tool is willing to race a day old car, he's probably willing to do a 6k dump... if he knows that's what it takes, which isn't likely.
I would just be speculating on a 1/4 mile run, but I think you will have a good driver by at least 1/2 sec - maybe up to a full second.
All those other comments are dead on. A car thief wouldn't treat the car like he would have to just to keep it close.
I run laps with one pretty frequently on a tight course that favors the S2000. The driver is equal or a little better than I am, but I can catch him, back off 50 yards and catch him again 2 or 3 times per lap (he hates to let me by).
The only time it might get sporty is from a roll where he is starting in 2nd or 3rd at 7,500 rpm - he might hold on (or loose minimum ground) 'till ya get moving.
