Just wondering if anyone has firsthand experience with some good winter tires, or bad ones that I should stay away from. I have Goodyear Eagles on the front and Sumitomo HTR-II's on the rear which I assume would not work well in winter, but maybe I'm wrong?
I don't have/ can't afford a second car, only have the vette.
I am still in college and will probably only be doing highway driving in the winter.
Car is parked in a garage during school as well.
Nothing too expensive please.
Oh and I live in Eastern Massachusetts, college in Worcester
I've never contacted him, but I've read (in the archives) almost everything he has posted. He is a fount of information that has been a great deal of help to me (I also have an 85, so his posts are particularly relevant to me).
If I was you, I would definitely be interested in what he has to say.

I live in Indiana and drove mine (89) daily for the last two years. I've got Toyo Proxes on mine and they seem to do ok. It takes a little to get going and a little more to get stopped, but it is not un-driveable. I had a '93 Camaro before that and it was comparable.
I ran my '88 and my '94 all year in central Illinois. About 25k miles/year for 5 or 6 years.
I used Falken Ziex ZE-512 tires in the 255/50/16 size on the base '88 wheels.
They surprised me that they did pretty well. I went through normal light snow days fine. I got caught in a couple of big snows and it was deep enough that I could hear the snow scraping on the bottom of the car, but they kept the car moving and I was able to go through it. If I was stopped, I don't know if they could have handled that deep a snow, but from a slow speed (about 25 or 30) they pushed through some deep sections.
I have not had the C4 in the snow, but I drive my '94 Camaro Z28 year round. I switch to Continental Extreme Winter Contact during the winter and they work great.
