Well here is my problem the battery went dead well I was changing my window seals.. I left the doors open and the interior and door lights must have drained the battery down... The car has now had the battery recharged but it will now not start at all.. It did start and run well before the battery died however.. The car is sitting at 12.4 volts according to the dash voltage meter the fuel pump is priming but the starter will not engage at all... Any ideas??
Frustration is really getting the better of me at this point....
. It is not engaging the starter...
I will try a new key tomorrow. If that does not work I think I will buy the VATS Bypass Module. Hopefully that will get me up and running...
Before wasting your $$ hotwire the starter and confirm that the battery will actually operate the starter before blaming VATS
Then bypass the starter relay to confirm that it not working ( or not being operated by the VATS module) is actually your problem
Pull the codes and see if the ECM is recording a VATS fault ( VATS module not working or not seeing correct resistance in the key)
I am going to order the Factory Service Manual and when it stops raining on and off take the advice that was mentioned above.
Hopefully it will fire at the moment though no go and no click!!!
DAMN
not likely it is the starter/solenoid itself, may be the circuit. to test it, key off, under the car, jump the large lug terminal of the batt cable from the starter to the terminal on the purple wire. that will engage the solenoid, which engages the starter motor.
to test with a meter, you have to have a helper turn key to START while you check the purple wire. but if it is not clicking -which is the solenoid moving the gear into the flywheel- it does not have the min volts of 9 or so.
if the starer engages and spins the engine, you have a circuit problem - neutral safety switch, start relay, ign key, VATS. likely is vats since you were working in the door panels, I am guessing.
not familiar with 88 yr computers but 91 has a "signal" when vats is not allowing the key to read, flashing "security" light or whatever.
Security light does blink but not on constant I gave it another quick check!
is it possible you blew a fuse while working? ck all of them that seem related, vats, pwr door, etc.
I think that security blinking means vats is not armed, is that correct? "ON" means vats is not working.
the clutch safety or neutral safety switch is in the circuit, also the starter relay, of course. also a FUSE.
