Default Help identifying rear end

I found a rear diff assembly for sale and from the pictures it looks like a d44. Just wanting a second opinion.

I used this thread to arrive at my idea.

Another question, owner says it is from an 87-89, will it fit a 90?

Looks like a rear out of a C3.

I was curious about that too. The batwing doesn't look right. I'll call the guy back and see if he can give me a date stamp off the bottom. He says its super low miles and fits 87-89. Which I thought the distinction was 85-87 and 88-86 due to abs and all the other goodies. Any how, he is asking $1200.

I'm converting my 700r4 to a zf6 and the rear end is the only piece I lack.

That is out of a C3 as stated. Check this one out, seems like a good deal.

Late C3 had a D44 that is different to the D44-HD used in the C4's

All C4 diffs are basically the same though the years; the year to year differences you speak of are outboard of the halfshafts

Any batwing / diffhead /( D36 or D44) , the halfshafts ( identical for all ) can be used with the correct outer parts to go into any year car.
Ratios vary ( by year) due to trans used

Diffs basically all the same ( minor bush size changes ) though the years;

SO this would fit in my car as long as I changed over the batwing and half shafts? I thought the bolt pattern/count was different from the c3-c4 d44s.

I went and looked at it. The guy has had it in a climate controlled garage for the last 20+ years. His next door neighbor had bought the Vette brand new and a few years later a tree fell on it. The guy bought the diff from his neighbor and had it polished and powder coated and was going to build a Nova with it. Only has 8k on it

Check out the pics in the link I posted above
C4 D44-HD vs the D44 -ICA from a C3
C3 diff is completely different to the C4 one, notwithstanding no mount for the C Beam on the diff nose

If that's a C3 there's NO using it period in a C4 - the comment: "" "Diffs basically all the same ( minor bush size changes ) though the years;

In this link #11 is an early D44 for a C3, you'll see the "OBVIOUS" differences. Take a second look at the differential you've mentioned in comparison to the one in the link!

rodj - it appears we were both "searching" for a visible comparison at the same time!!

I took a closer look at the picture and noticed the difference between the casings with the c4 d44 having the "block" looking thing for the c-beam.

Thanks Guys! The search continues....

I'd say you've located another D36 - There's snapshots of everything except the rear "bat-wing" which is a more obvious ID but all of the other visuals seem to indicate D36. Third "top" bolt seems barely visible.

If it's close I'd say it might be wise to maybe check it out anyways - depending on the ratio it could be a "good-find" for another CF member.

It was indeed a d36. He had told me over the phone it came from a 1989 6 speed car. Which may be true, judging by the amount of powder coating and polishing it could have been swapped. $700 was still a pretty good deal. I couldn't tell the ratio because I couldn't get the axles to turn and all the stampings were gone.

If someone needs it go for it! OR let me know and I can pick it up for someone.
