Default :0 help!!!!!!!

Went out side to drive the vette to work yesterday and when i turned the switch over it fired up beautifully but started making a whining noise, so opened the hood to see where it was coming from then i hear a clacking sound. Seems to be coming from the left side of the motor. The clacking is an on and off thing but the whine is constant. So my first guess was bearings in the smog pump or alternator so i did the old screw driver to the ear trick and they both sounded normal. Any suggestions?

Taking the belts off and running it a little while will tell you if its an accessories or the engine itself.

What he said. While the belt is off, spin all pulleys for feelings of roughness including W/P and tensioner. Check P/S fluid, they make a whine when empty.

ok so i took the belt off and as soon as i did i seen the problem. the alternator pulley had backed away from the fan on the front of the alternator and was jus kinda wobbeling so i figured the nut on the front had just came loose (i thjought kinda strange) so i retightened it and when i spun it i noticed it the pulley was terribly off center so i took it completely off and the center of the pulley has been reamed out to big to fit correctly and they dont sell just pulleys so it looks like ill be buying a new alternator

Or a local armature shop can replace the bad pull/fan.
