Default New injectors??

Well I have been chasing a rough idle and rich smelling exhaust since I brought the car 6 month ago...car seems to smooth out at any rpm above idle.... New plugs and Wires and opti installed in December By PO

History of engine as explained by PO..Original is gone.. This engine was installed 2001..it came out of a totaled 92 corvette with 32K (have title listing mileage signed off by insurance company). PO stated that when his mechanic installed the new engine they found 3 bad injectors and replaced them with the ones from the original motor which at the time had 92k...

So here are my questions..How can I tell if my injectors are going bad?? Should I just replace them.... This engine now has 36k... 5 injectors have 36k ..3 injectors 96k miles which is which I dont know..And of course theres the obvious there all 20 years old...

So should I replace? would I be throwing money away?? Do injectors wear??

Thanks in advance..

Thanks in advance

Replacing old injectors is very likely the most effective bucks you can spend. I'll let somebody else recommend FIC, I did it first last time.

One of the biggest improvements i made on my original motor. However the benefit you gain will be directly proportional to how screwed up your old ones are.

You guys are slipping, took 5 hours for someone to recommend Jon. Jester you can ohm injectors, both hot and cold, to ID any that are electrically deficient but short of pulling them for a complete inspection there is not much more you can do. I do suggest the symptoms you describe are almost classic descriptions of failed injectors.

Well pm sent to Jon... Another few question if I may..

What size injectors do I need?? (92 LT1 automatic coupe) and how difficult of a job are they to change on a lt1 vs a L98..

And thanks again for all the help..I really appreciate it..

Jon will send you the correct injectors for your car. If you have never done an injector change before and go slowly, figure about 2 hours. If you have done them before and do not waste any time about 45 minutes or less. It is really a very easy job on the 1992 and up LT 1 engine.

Calderone.. I didn't ignore your post...I watched the video 4 times... I'm pretty confident I can handle a l98 injector swap thanks to that video. Just wondering how different it would be for an LT1....

I appreciate your time and effort in helping me out..

Takes Right? My above comment was sincere..But your response seems somewhat condescending..its obvious you didn't read the thread before posting..if you had..you would have seen I mentioned the year and engine designation in a couple of post..But in your haste you missed it

I appreciate everyones help.but please don't attempt to disrupt my thread..by making it appear I was being or trying to be rude to another member here..

Oh Ouch!

So when you post a new thread we are expected to read through all of your posts to determine your year?
Fill in the profile info and avoid further misunderstandings.

Like I said earlier "HELP US HELP YOU"

Now that you have a mismatch of injectors, you should really consider replacing the whole set rather than just a few. Yes injectors will "wear" out and become dirty or clogged with time.

So if your convinced the rough idle and rich smell is injectors, I'd have to ask, have you changed the 02 sensor yet? Have you pulled each injector plug while the engine is running to determine a better or worse condition?

Good Luck

We?? What's with the we..I don't expect anything from anyone..Thats why i really appreciate when someone takes the time to help me..I'm sure most of the members here respond to post to sincerely help one another....And to be honest I allways read the entire thread before I respond to see what has already been discussed...

On that note ..i do have a signature but it only appears on one post here...I have to check my options again...

O2 sensor replaced...datalogged and o2 is operating within parameters..I haven't tried disconnecting the individual injectors... As I was just looking for the general consensus...and I agree the mismatched set and 20yrs old I should invest in a new set.. I sent fic an email.. Will get them ordered tomorrow...

Thank you..I appreciate the help

from what i gather, LT1 injector swaps are 1000 times easier than L98, which is not all that difficult minus two bolts...
