Just got my 84 C4 on the road! After loads of cleaning and new interior. I'm looking to make her run a little stronger. I know I can port the intake, put on an 85 fuel pump, put in a lower temp thermostat, 1.6 roller rockers, long tube headers, and making the air flow. Is there any other suggestions someone can give me while I've got her apart that will give her a little more pep?

X2^

Doing the recipe you suggested above should net you ~250 hp though...which is a healthy improvement over stock. With regard to porting...the more you port, the more power it will make. When you think you're done, start again and do it more!

Sounds good, I'm thinking about getting a spare manifold off Ebay just in case I mess up. Then I'll sell my old one after I successfully complete the swap. Any suggestions on what bits work the best.

I'm also planning on deleting the pollution control. EGR, AIR pump, ect. Will there be a noticeable gain there as well?

http://www.ruffstuff.com/

This place sells the good stuff.
If you buy the cheapo $30 carbides it will be more difficult. They want to bounce around/grab more and go bad quick.
The ones I use on TPIs/LT5 are $90 a piece but last forever and cut like butter.

Usually get all of mine in 6" length then cut them down if needed for more control.

A 1/2" dia egg shaped usually gets most of it
Some 1/8 mandrel (get 2, 6" length) stragiht cartridge rolls 1" to 1-1/2" 80 grit is a good start to follow up after doing carbide cutting. Call them up tell them what youre doing they will steer you in the right drection otherwise youll end up with a bunch of stuff you cant use/dont need.

Have some real good 2 part epoxy on hand in case you go through on a CFI you just might. Not a big deal though
JBquick works alright also.

Try an SE5 and or SH5 2 are nice in case you bend one or want to cut one down. Try one of each

CR12 cartridge rolls get a box of straights...80 grit

If you want lower grade stuff
http://www.acutabove.com/
They have what you need and rolls, too. Cheaper but youll notice a huge difference from the good stuff. I only run over there if Im in a pinch and need something that day. Talk to Danny or Arthur

What he said. I used ones that looked like the top three, in the longest shaft length possible. THEN, I used a drill bit extension to get even more length.

EGR won't gain you an ounce of power. Air pump? Maybe a couple hp. More if it's failing. MUCH bigger gains are found in the porting, in your exhaust, from the manifolds back, and in timing. Those areas are where the "money's at" with CFI motors.

I used something very much like the Aluma burrs. I feel that is the fastest way to remove lots of material.

Thanks so much for your advice. Its going to be my winter project. Its way to much fun to drive to start at that now. But I can build up my parts/tool fund now that I know what I need for the job.

One thing I have not seen mentioned is the fuel pressure regulator. The stocker is adjustable if you remove a pressed in cap to get to it.
Im not so sure about the 85 pump. If the stock pump holds pressure you should be fine.

Am finishing up some heads this next week....may be able to send you a carbide or two and some rolls I will probably never use if you like.

Got too much of this stuff laying around and want a few new bits
