Took a ride today about 45 minutes long, service engine light comes on about 30 minutes through the ride... pull along the side of the road check for any loose wires, connections, ect, anything unusual... nothing.. got home let the car sit for 20 minutes, came out and started it and no service engine light. this has happened twice, any thoughts? id like to track this down before it becomes an issue! car is a 95 w/ 143k miles
You know I have a similar issue with mine. Where I drive it in normal conditions and the light randomly comes on with no overheating or any other temps out of wack. I'm curious as well to see what the case might be. Mine comes on somewhat often and has me thinking there must be a short because not once has anything been even remotely out of order. I hope we can both get some ideas and advice.
just a follow up for you guys, checked hoses and snugged them up, so far the light has not come back on....
i do plan on buying that device to read codes in the near future but for now i'm going to wait and see if it will come back on or not.... good luck to you few that posted with the same problem, as 1990torchred said check the hoses!!
Pull the codes and see what it indicates. I say this because I had almost the same symptom but my problem was the Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Solenoid Valve.
Both the EGR and canister can cause similar symptoms and by getting the code might take some of the guess work out of it. You will at least know what circuit or system to work on.
just tried the paper clip trick and it works well, now i guess i just need to wait and see if the light comes on again?
OK - then when you initiate the code sequence, it should cycle thru the modules. It should say, 1, 4, 9 then A. You should look after you see the "4" which is the PCM which turns on the SES light. That is the module you are most interested in. If it does not have any codes in module 4, it will then just go to module 9 (and there was no codes).
So go back and run it again and see if any codes come up. Always note what codes there are for the indicated module.
If there are no codes in module 1, it will say C12 which is a normal indication.
