C4 master cylinder upgrade

Burning Brakes
no, even different year C4s are different

There IS an upgraded master cyl that will fit a C4...but I do not know the part number. I researched this when I bought my Zo6 brakes for my 87 since the obvious problem was now a matter of moving twice as much fluid to operate twice the caliper piston size. Its not a real big deal but the same result is obtained with more travel of the master to move more fluid to the bigger pistons. I like "touchy" brakes that grab if I look at the pedal...but you get used to having to push farther after awhile.

F-body master has the same piston diameter as the C5 and is what people use to address brake pedal travel.

Thats good to know ! thanks
The problem is nothing that can't be dealt with....its a simple matter (sorta) of mounting hole/post position. An adaptor could be made to "fit" the existing bolt pattern as long as the push-rod lined up properly. Rod length might have to be adjusted as well.
But, knowing what a PITA it is to get the rod d/c from the pedal....I can certainly understand why nobody has experimented with something like this to fab an adaptor. It would be a great project to find a good, high vol high pressure master that could be used for track cars and big brakes...to build an adaptor "kit" that came with the right rod and bolt-up bracket...

Sweetdrive,
As mentioned already a later 4th generation Camaro master cylinder with a 1” bore size can be made to work on a C4. I put one on my 1985 track car along with a Wilwood brake set up and the pedal travel worked out just right for my liking. Here are a couple of photos of what I did. You may not need the adjustable proportioning valve because your car has ABS, maybe others will know more about this. My car is a non ABS car.
