Default Taylor plug wires length

following cam swap etc, been using leads of different lengths temp
while I sorted everything out.
Now I'm trying to fit a new set of Taylor's that route across the top of the covers with the plastic wire dividers and Im damned if I can work out the right lengths to each cylinder so that look neat.
Anyone got a rough wire length to cylinder calculation, that I can use as a reference?

Exactly! Any brand of wires you pick will have way too much length to look/fit right. Get the universal kits with the correct plug terminals already on the wires then lay the wire out how you want it and cut off the excess & install the dist. terminal.

i've installed "custom fit" taylor sets on both my 85, and my 90 L98's. while, the lengths were not exactly the same as stock OEM delco's, they were fairly close, and installation was never an major issue. i just matched up the stock lengths to the taylor's - seems to me, there were only 3 or 4 different lengths. i do remember the #1 plug wire was the longest - the factory routes it up behind the LH head, the back side of the distributor, then wraps around and comes in from the right. i have installed delco replacements sets, and as i recall, they were not a length to length match up either.

The ends can be bought from Taylor separate I'm sure, that's all you need to do. The reason the made to fit kits are the length they are is to accomodate installation the way the factory did it, so if you choose a different routing of the wires such as over the top of the valve cover you end up with way too much wire. Even if you do run them exactly as the factory did there is usually one or two wires that are too long. When I used to show my previous car, a pro street Chevelle, I bought bulk wire with no ends on it at all, then I also bought plug ends and put them on, then since I was running a Vertex magneto I simply had to cut the wire to the length I wanted and stick the end into the Vertex cap.

As other's have said, purchase the universal Taylor set and custom make your own wires and have the lenghts perfect. If your wires are too long, you can buy the distributor end connectors to cut and shorten the wires. I use the Thundervolt 50 wires and not only cut them to the right lenghts but also orient the two connectors to the correct directions (the wires are 10mm thick and don't twist well).
