Default TPIS Mini Ram II ('86 Vette)

Just took delivery of my new TPIS Mini Ram II with Fuel Rails, and Prom VI chip.
Install should be completed by May 30th.
I have a new 160* thermostat to install, and I drilled the (4) .200 diameter holes as mentioned in TPIS' Insider Hints book. (I will not be 'plugging' the 'water pump bypass' at this time...as also suggested by Insider Hints). Will this present a problem with the new thermostat install?

Here are a few other questions:
Has anyone made the above change to their 'thermostat'? Did you notice a 10* to 15* difference in temperature as TPIS claims? What about your oil tempertaure? Did it too, show the oil to be running 20* cooler with this mod.?

I'm still running my stock '86 Vette Injectors. I'm concerned because I have over 150K miles on them, and I have never had a reason to pull them. What would be your suggestion?

Any suggestions on what to do, or watch for while doing the MIni Ram II install?

I appreciate your thoughts and suggestions.

John

The lower temps are more a result of the 160 in unison with the PROM chip, which i believe they set to make the fans come on sooner. Otherwise, youll see no real drop in temperature once you get up to cruise, it will just take longer for it to run hot in town. I'm curious what they mean by "water pump bypass" i guess they mean TB bypass?

The injectors are worn down, no doubt, but if youre not having startup problems hot or cold, then theyre not bad yet. You should, however, think about having them serviced or replace them with FMS #24 injectors.

I have a Miniram on my 89.. I also only drilled 3 holes instead of 4.. I forget the size. I also removed the oil cooler. my car typically runs around 180-190 coolant temp and around 190-200 Oil Temp

Only thing I can think of is be sure the Thermostat sits right in the T stat hole.
I did read somewhere that someone installed a T stat in the mini ram and it was getting stuck or something due to its height or something.Cant remember for sure what it was all about but as with anythying, recheck everything 2-3 times and you should be good to go.
You may also need to readjust the minimum air speed and TPS again if it wont run right where you left it last with the TB.As with any mods to the motor,it may need readjusting to avoid surging, stalling or throwing maf codes.
Good Luck and hope it runs like a rocket.

I had some problems , read about it here: http://temp.corvetteforum.net/c4/olrj/index2.shtml
I'm still trying to find the ideal size for bypass holes for my combo. this time I'm going to use a 160 stat with 2 bypass holes (like you I didn't plug the water pump bypass hole in the block).
if you drive year round you'll need 2 thermostat's, one for summer one for winter. I suggest cutting the lower throttle body (IAC housing) coolant tube back alot (you have to cut that tube off to clear the thermostat housing anyway) that way you can change the stat without taking the throttle body off.

You have to remove the water pump to block off the bypass hole. Mine has a 1/4 in allen head plug in the bypass. This prevents the water pump from recirculating the water back into the block, supposed to help warm up faster. I have 4 0.125" holes in the t-stat and temps are around 160-165F. I also have reprogrammed the chip to bring on the fans around 183F and off at 173F. You can put silicone in the water pump bypass hole (bottom hole passenger side), clean it and let it dry, I have seen the silicone work its way to the radiator if its not left alone, long enough. It's an old dirt track trick that I have used on chevys for years.
