Default Power cutting out with AC on??

So I was driving home from king of prussia today and had the air on and I noticed something weird. When I would accelerate (usually a harder accel) there was a few times where it would cut out for like 1-2 secs. Felt like when you don't feather the clutch properly and you starve it of gas (as if it was going to stall). As a side note I do have a 6 speed. I have not noticed this problem often, and never with the AC off. Any ideas?

There is a WOT cut-off switch for the A/C.

They do not want the A/C compressor engaged during that time.

This might be what you felt.

I just realized you might be referring to the engine cutting out.

If that is the case, sounds like some troubleshooting would be in order.

I would warm up the engine.

Step 1: Attach a vacuum gauge to a full manifold vacuum port. A vacuum tee would help.

You should have 19-21 inches of vacuum at idle. If you do, good. Then go to step 2.

Step 2: Remove your throttle body to clean. With the throttle body removed, you can also remove the Idle Air Control (IAC) motor easily.

If the throttle body still has the coolant hoses attached, drain a little coolant from the radiator. Or use several rags beneath the hoses to soak up the antifreeze.

Be sure to clean everything.

You can use Throttle Body Cleaner. I sometimes use Carb Cleaner. Make sure everything is spotless before reassembling.

Remove all the gasket material from the intake manifold and the Throttle Body.

Install a new Throttle Body gasket.

Reinstall the IAC motor into the Throttle Body.

Reinstall the Throttle Body and attach the coolant hoses if they were attached before.

Top off the metal coolant tank near the firewall and reinstall the radiator cap.

Make sure the level in the white plastic coolant reservoir near the passenger side headlight is at the proper level.

Start the vehicle and check for leaks. Coolant & vacuum.

If none, take the Vette for an extended drive.

Make several stops and starts. Drive with the A/C on and with the A/C off.

Report back!

Thank you for the detailed instructions!! I was thinking of taking the car for a dyno tune at county corvette. Maybe this is something I could bring up to them to troubleshoot since they will have the car anyways? Or do you recommend me doing it beforehand?

If you are comfortable doing this, you should.

I am sure the folks at County Corvette could do this also.

You could save some money by doing this yourself.

Just wondering. Why do you want them to do a dyno tune?

Is your LT4 completely stock?

Or do you have some mods installed?

Cam 503-8 from Summit
Melrose long tube headers
Rand Technoligies bullet cats with 3" pipes.
Vortex Cold Air Induction
30LB Injectors

That's what is done to the car. Im getting almost 400hp at the crank. There is a computer from PCMforless. However I want the best tune possible/best performance/gas mileage. I know the car runs rich and there is room for improvement. I will also run this by them so they can check whats going on with my power loss while the AC is on.

As a side note... my check engine light just went on coming home from work today.. I stopped at auto zone to get a quick read on it and it came up as:

Definition:
Crank sensor condition
Crankshaft position sensor signal is monitored for errors

Possible Causes:
Crank sensor defective
Check connector and wiring to sensor
Check trigger wheel for damage.

Cutting out on acceleration sounds like a clogged fuel filter.
It's a real classic symptom, when was it changed last…..or ever?

Not sure when it was changed before i bought it, but in the 2 years I had it I haven't changed it. I guess that will be something to look at when I get the dynotune. That had crossed my mind too. Thanks!
