air conditioner compresser bracket
my 88 corvette air conditioner compressor bracket is cracked and moving around. Where can i find a replacement? I have looked at numerous sites and no one has one for an 88. Would an 87 fit?

The compressor in the 88 changed from the 86-87. As a result the bracket is different. Check the parts for sale/wanted section of the C4 forum ,the various vendors on the forum, or ebay.

BINGO. Mine cracked must be 10 years ago, had it welded then I filed it smooth then a tad of polishing It is still holding firm, have to look close to find the repair.

Find a local welding shop that can weld aluminum. As long as the bracket is not completely broken, it should be a fairly easy weld job. Don't drive the car any more than necessary. Remove the bracket and take it to a welder. Even cast aluminum can bend, so it's important to insure the bracket is aligned properly to the attaching points on the engine when it's welded.

Rodg is right, I had the same problem too and it happened because the ( mechanic) who installed the cam and heads in my car had decided that 2 of the 3 supporting brackets that hold the Ac bracket were uneassacery and he never installed them back!!! I got my new ( used ) Ac bracket for $60 shipped from a member in the furom at the parts section

Sorry I can only tell you that the most important a/c bracket brace goes to the exhaust manifold stud. I think there may be 3 braces in different accessory points...like alt, a/c and maybe air pump. Thats how mine is..87.
The PS bracket is in aftermarket production. I've had to buy one. For whatever reason the a/c bracket is found salvage only as of now...The a/c MUST have the brace and be careful of how the tensioner plate rest on the water [pump hose...I broke my bracket running the nuts down tight when the bracket was pressed against a hose clamp for the suction hose...(lower hose). duh..
Loosen and tighten these fragile aluminum brackets as if they were glass. Never run down a nut then go to the next...they don;t flex well..

That lower bracket from tensioner plate to the old fuel pump mount sure is needed ! I wish mine had that...
Its amazing at how much torque the belt pulls on the accessory assy when the engine is revved...even a tight assy set you can still see things tweaking around a bit.
