I had my '96 LT1 about a month when I had new tires put on. The tire guys broke two of the pressure sensors. They replaced one set and then another, but it wasn't fixed. I took it to the local Corvette shop and they replaced two more sensors and reset the codes. It still doesn't work. Sometimes after running for a few minutes the light comes on and sometimes it does't. The tire shop has paid for everything and have tried to be helpful, but it was working fine when I took it in, and now it isn't. I need some good advice here. Do I need the codes reset again? Could it be something other than the sensor(s)? I can't see spending any more of my time or the tire shop's money, but here is an important safety feature that I can't use. I am not a happy camper!! Can anyone help me out here? :mad
This system is a PITA. The service light will come on sometimes after I've been driving for about half an hour, and it gives me the codes for all four sensors. I'd try to get the codes yourself (I'm not sure how this works on a '96 because of the OBDII). If you can do that and figure out which wheel is doing it then at least you know where to start. I don't really know a lot about the sensors, but maybe one isn't mounted correctly or something. Also, I know it sounds stupid, but make sure each tire has the correct pressure. Mine started acted up worse when the pressure in a couple of tires dropped, even though they still had 25-27 pounds. Good luck!
I've heard that the sensors are on national back order. I need one for a right front tire on a '96. Tire guys did it to me to, but can't find any sensors. Any thoughts on where to get one?
My local tire guys busted a couple of mine. Their cost to replace them would have been ~205.00 each or a total of 410.00. Given that the system is a bit of a PITA and TireRack sells a lot better setup for less than 410.00, I asked them how they felt about providing me the 410.00 in store credit. Figured it was cheaper for them and I never much cared for the system so it was a "win -win." I got fresh tires and alignment for the wifes car and they saved some $$$ as well.
