Default Vane direction on rotors??????????????????

Is the vane direction on the c4 the same as the c5? The C5's they paddle backward if you know what I mean. Now who ever did my brakes last reversed them so they are scooping air when rotating forward. Hope someone understands what I mean. I guess they would be the same as C5 are they marked RF right front as the c5's are I didn't see any with them on the car thanks.

On the C4, air should be drawn in from the center hub and fan itself outwards. This also helps the front bearing assembly with heat dissipation. Sounds like the C4 and C5 are the same.

John, I've been trying to remember this since a post the other day, and would have to pull my wheels again to see - which I will do tomorrow if you don't get an answer.

If I had to take a SWAG: I would say the the air flow is from the center inside outwards through the vanes, as posted above. I know this part is correct. So, given this it would make sense for the vanes to be pointed back looking from the top so as to evacuate into the slight vacuum behind the rotors.

I got into the same thing last time I replaced the rotors, finally went by part number. I don't think they are marked RF, LF - or even R, L.

Been there done that...got the correct answer for you...vanes should point towards the back do dissipate heat from the center...

Thanks guys for your help. I didn't think it was reverse engineering on the C5 I'll have to change them.

... ...

OK, you got me running to my manual...I replaced my front rotors earlier this year...

But to calm down other early C4 owners...The 84-87's don't use directional rotors...

...At least according to the parts manual...

...(But I've been wrong before...And will be again)... :D

Edit: The manual is correct. OEM 84-87 have "straight" vanes, not angled. (Whew!)... :D

...another reason for spinning the rotor in an 'outward' mode is the reduce the amount of small debris that might collect between the vanes.
