Rear spring spacers
After removing the rear spring on my '87, I noticed that the lower spacer has some sort of white material on them and it's also on the anchor plate. It's fairly hard and I'm thinking that it's some sort of adhesive or a sealer but it's not on the spring itself.
Did GM use something when attaching the spring to the diff carrier? Can I remove the stuff and re-install the spring without anything? What if anything can be used?
I had to remove the spring to install the Doug Rippie offset spindle rod brackets. Turns out that the inside the bracket bolts won't come out with the spring in place. Then I find that one of the long bolts for the spring anchor plate was bent and some of the female threads in the diff cover are stripped. WTF
I don't think the spring has ever been removed so it had to be done at the factory.
